Comment: I have been using Clinique for over 23 years. It is the only facial soap that does not break out my skin. I have tried switching, but I always come back to Clinique. I honestly believe that it has made my skin look younger (than my actual age)...when people guess my age, it is usually 5-8 years younger. The only reason I give it 4 stars is because I don't like the new dish it comes in (the soap sticks to the top and makes it hard to get out of the dish when you are in the shower).

Comment: When I started using this it made my face a little dry. Like with any system you have to give it more than a few days to work. My face is nearly 100% free of breakouts and this soap leaves my face feeling clean. For best results, use a washcloth to work lather into face.

Comment: After reading the other reviews of these products, I felt I had to write also. I too experienced quite a bad reaction to the Clinique 3-step system including a spotty, bumpy forehead and increased sensitivity. On returning the products I was told my skin was cleaning itself out - what rubbish?! I would never chance using Clinique on my face ever again. However, their make-up and fragrances are probably one of the best you can buy. I have used All About Eyes for around 20 years and people comment all the time that I have no wrinkles around my eyes (I'm 37). May be its All About Eyes. I would recommend Decleor to anyone with dry skin - it's a little heavy and expensive but worth every penny and lasts for months - defo does the job! I recommend Dermalogica ultra calming facial wash too.

Comment: First of all let me say I don't have sensitive skin. I'm blonde, green eyes, fair to medium complexion, oily to combination skin. I started using Clinique 20 yrs ago, while in high school. My skin started breaking out big time, and because I have fair skin the redness from the breakouts stayed long after they cleared up. My skin was looking bad when I discovered Clinique. I used the soap and clarifying astringent and my skin cleared up beautifully! I got through my acne prone adolescent years practically blemish free and I get compliments on my complexion to this day. I started both my kids on Clinique as soon as they hit middle school and both of them have great skin compared to their friends. This soap is fabulous! It deep cleans the skin and is the foundation to a great complexion. My husband has super oily skin with a history of severe acne and he uses the stronger soap with great success. He says he wishes he'd known about Clinique as a teen it might have prevented some scarring. My kids (ages 18 & 13) use the whole line of Clinique products and they managed to escape major breakouts and the heavy scarring that goes with it. Clinique and a good sunscreen are your tickets to great skin.

About the same time I started using the Clinique 3-step system, I began wearing foundation for the first time. I found that my skin started breaking out and began to be dry in some spots. I stopped using the foundation after about 3 months because I thought that was the issue. However, my skin problems did not improve and I even moved down a level in the Clinique system to one for more sensitive skin.
However, after about 7 months of daily use, my skin was not improving and I found a review of the Clinique 3-step System from Paula Begoun. Her research indicates that all of Clinique's facial soaps in the 3-Step System are too irritating for all skin types. Her research also stated that all Clarifying Lotions (1-4) contain alcohol and Clarifying Lotion 2 contains menthol which make them too irritating for all skin types.
I never thought that my skin care products were the cause of my flaky skin and break outs. Apparently, the products dried out my skin making it flaky in some areas and in response, my skin started producing more oil to compensate for the dryness-which made me break out in other areas. I switched to Paula's Choice facial products and I occasionally use Cetaphil. After I made the switch, my skin slowly began recovering.
Unfortunately, now I have some acne scars on my cheeks as a result of using the Clinique 3-step system. It makes me sad because before, my skin was healthy and for the most part clear. I do want to be fair to Clinique. They have some great products---I use their City Block Sheer SPF 15, Advanced Stop Signs Eye SPF 15 and I wear Clinique Happy perfume which smells amazing.
I hope this review proves helpful to other women so you don't have to go through what I went through! Clinique does have some great products in their line, but they do need to reformulate their 3-Step Skin Care System.

Clinique soap leaves skin feeling fresh, clean, comfortable--never taut or dry. Facial Soap Mild is for dry or average skin. Facial Soap Extra-Strength is for oilier skin.
